Ah, roleplay. If you're here, I assume you already know a bit about it. If not, check out this site if you're just that bored.
Anywhos, a bit about roleplaying on this site. Bear with me as I ramble. ;3The Story
- When you're going somewhere, things have to happen. Obviously, and I even feel silly for typing. Spirits might jump out at you, if you're in Botta then theft is far from uncommon, stuff like that. My point with this is if you want to go on a solo journey or need someone to play the NPCs then, well, hopefully people will volunteer to NPC it for you. But if not, mail a team member (mod/admin) and we'll do so for you if we have time.
- Keeping fights realistic is fun. Like if you attempt a spell and goes wrong and makes more drama/obstacles for you and your friends, I don't know. At least in my case, Kael can do uberpowerful stuff but it'll blow up in his face half the time so it makes it easier for other people to gain an edge. It can be used for comedy too, which is at least why I'd have a lot of fun with it.
- As for the plot. Well, aside from the long-standing storyline, it's up to the people who join and post. So I hope to build it into something epic.
The Characters
- On this site, we allow only one character. If you'd like to make a different one, you can either kill off your character in an epic struggle (keep in mind, with the nature of Sunadokei, death isn't always permanent if you can impress the Council!) or apply for a second one. To get a second character you have to prove to the team you can handle it.
- Originality is your friend. Here the broad range of options for your characters provides a lot of potential, so use it!
Not every character's background has to be an epic story of death, betrayal, destiny, what have you. So you don't have to try to go over the top with drama like I did. XD
- While we all love our characters, sometimes they have to lose. =/ If you come up in a situation and find it unrealistic for your character to end up victorious, don't pull an anime/manga trick and come up with some magical superpower to suddenly give you an edge. If you can't find an escape, you can always mail an admin or mod and have one of the NPCs give you a quick save. Cheap, but it works.
The Typing
- With roleplay, stick in third person. First person is acceptable when your character is talking, of course, but any other time would just sound weird.
- Spacing is your friend. The rule of thumb is to start a new paragraph whenever someone different speaks, there is a shift in topic, or the words are just getting too long and it's one big blob of text. Use them wisely and you'll make the other people reading your posts much happier.
- Punctuation is your friend. Yes, I know it seems like a no brainer, but I've seen people roleplay without a single period. It gets really irritating, really fast, to work all that out. So please save our eyes.
- Thoughts can be expressed in many different ways. I personally like to write the character's thoughts into the story so it's like a novel, but there are bunches of other options. For example:
This place isn't that impressive, Kael thought as his eyes scanned the meeting room. They could barely avoid a half-decent coffee maker.
'This place isn't that impressive.' Kael's eyes scanned the meeting room. 'They can barely afford a half-decent coffee maker.'
This place isn't that impressive. Kael's eyes scanned the meeting room. They can barely afford a half-decent coffee maker.
- This brings us to color. Color can be helpful to emphasize parts of your post, but like everything it should be used in moderation. I've seen a lot of people who use it to show their character's speech, and here it will be used to show the language your character is speaking in.
- This brings us to emphasis. XD Bold, italics, underlining, caps, all of them can be used to indicate a word you'd like to point out and change the tone of your character's speech. Or the tone of your post, though that wouldn't be used as much. But as I said before, the key word is moderation. All caps, all bold, or all underline would be a no no.
Group Roleplay
- Most of the fun part of the roleplay is getting a group together to have an epic adventure. I mean really. Epic is fun. But it's also harder to organize what with people being on a different time. Which is what the chat forum is for in the general category. You can post there to ask for a mission to join or organize something of your own, those who lead sections and groups and whatnot can advertise for members, and people who are looking for a rival can search for an opponent. XD
- An important part of the group thing on a forum is order. Say you have a group of four people, plus a fifth NPC. The easiest way would be to have person 1 post first, then 2, then 3, 4, NPC, 1, etc. Easy. But if people start posting out of order... Like 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, NPC, 5, 2, 1...Well, it even looks confusing in simple writing. So in order to be polite, I would only group up with people who post on a basis that is similar to yours. Then you aren't rushed or waiting.

And that's about it for now. Thank you for listening to my ADD. XD If there's questions about anything, mail me! Or mods or whoever! 'Cause if it's a good question or addition it'll be edited in here.
But the most important thing is to have fun~ So go, dammit, and have some fun. -shakes fist-
